AHOY, FOR THE ADVENTURES OF SINBAD

AHOY, FOR THE ADVENTURES OF SINBAD

The exotic tale of Sinbad the Sailor is immortalised in Coolum Theatre Players upcoming musical production.  Written by Peter Denyer and directed by committee members Dennis Coleman and Chris McMahon, this pantomime is one of the classic Tales of The Arabian Nights.  Sinbad sets off to make his fortune unaware that the evil Cassim the Corsair is trying to kill him in order to claim the hand of the beautiful Princess Haidee.

The Old Man of the Sea provides the narration throughout which helps to keep the audience informed about where you are in the story that visits a lot of locations.  He has a great warmth and ability to communicate directly with the audience.

Sinbad of course is the hero:  handsome, brave, athletic and charming.  He sets out on an adventure and is determined to make his fortune to win the hand of Princess Haidee.

Cassim the Corsair is totally evil but uses his oily charm to win people over and easily tricks the innocent Sinbad out of his fortune.  He will attract a lot of “boos” and “hisses” from the audience.

Sillibillibad is Sinbad’s younger brother and just by the name you can imagine he is a fairly silly and cheeky fellow, but comical too.

Mrs Sinbad is a tower of strength and withstands the many disasters that she encounters on this adventure.

The Caliph of Baghdad, an autocratic ruler, is used to being obeyed and expects everyone to jump when he says so!  His beautiful daughter the Princess Haidee is deeply in love with Sinbad and she objects to her father’s autocratic approach.

The Queen of the Diamond Valley has ruled this realm for so long that her heart has become like one of her stones – sharp…and hard….and cold!

Snippets of a few familiar  musical numbers include “In the Navy”, “Diamonds Are Forever” and “An Octopuses Garden” – this one the audience will be invited to sing along to.

Will Sinbad eventually get the better of Cassim?  Will Princess Haidee and Sinbad live happily ever after?  Find out when Coolum Theatre Players performs 8 shows:
